Scope of Practice

Mr. Palmer's practice primarily focuses on banking, creditor's rights, commercial litigation and municipal law. In addition to representing numerous financial institutions, he is a member of the federal Criminal Justice Act (CJA) panel of attorneys appointed to represent indigent criminal defendants in the U.S. Courts. Nonetheless, Mark considers himself a general practitioner, practicing in areas from business law to estate planning to serving as guardian ad litem in court appointments to represent the best interests of minors and disabled adults.

Experience

Before joining Evans, Froehlich, Beth & Chamley, Mr. Palmer worked at the John Marshall Law School while pursuing his LL.M. degree in International Trade and Business Law. He worked as the law school's China Student Ambassador serving as the student advisor to the Asian Alliance and coordinating and tutoring visiting Chinese nationals to the school including judges, attorneys and government officials. Mr. Palmer's work took him to China in the summers of 2004 and 2005 to study Chinese law and work as a research assistant at the East IP law firm and a teaching assistant at the China State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) in Beijing.

During law school, Mr. Palmer clerked for a downtown Chicago law firm and for the Cook County State's Attorney's Office in the Narcotics Prosecution Division. While pursuing his law degree through night classes, he worked as a researcher for three years in the Chicago corporate office of Spencer Stuart, an executive search firm. Mr. Palmer worked as a police officer for the City of Champaign prior to moving to Chicago for law school.

Mark is a native of Champaign and is a second-generation attorney (Charles L. Palmer, father). Mark enjoys watching University of Illinois athletics, playing golf and traveling. Mark and his wife, Emily, reside in Champaign, Illinois.
